A Thai website has uploaded several blurry teasers of the upcoming Toyota Fortuner, ahead of the SUV’s launch in Thailand. Toyota has already commenced the dealer dispatch of the new Fortuner in the country, where a batch of camouflaged SUVs was recently spotted loaded up on a trailer.
Though details about the new Fortuner are still sketchy, the teaser indicates that the car will get a completely new design, inspired by the Lexus range of SUVs. The car adopts a floating roofline, which culminates with a roof top spoiler. The new Fortuner will be built on the new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), which is a scalable platform developed for multiple segments. This platform will also underpin the next-generation Innova. The engine line-up in the new Fortuner will be updated to offer more power and better efficiency. It will continue to be offered in four-wheel-drive and two-wheel-drive variants, with either a five-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.
The launch of the Fortuner in Thailand is significant for the Indian market too as the cars sold here are made by assembling the completely knocked down units imported from Thailand. The Toyota Fortuner competes with other SUVs like the Ssangyong Rexton, Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Captiva and is expected to be launched here at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.
