Land Rover has just unveiled a comprehensively updated version of its bestselling model, the Evoque. Featuring new design elements and a lot of additional technology, this new version of the premium compact SUV is set to be unveiled next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
At the front, the updates include a new front bumper, different grille designs, all-LED headlamps and three new alloy wheel designs. The 2016 model year Evoque is the first Land Rover to be offered with full-LED adaptive headlamps. The brand says these changes will enhance Evoque’s design to a broad range of buyers. The cabin now gets new seats and door casing and, updated infotainment system accessed via an 8-inch touch screen display.
As reported earlier, Land Rover has introduced the new aluminium Ingenium diesel engine for the 2016 model year Evoque, making it the most efficient production Land Rover ever. The new engines are manufactured at the company’s new engine plant in the West Midlands, UK.
The all-aluminium Ingenium TD4 engine is 20-30kg lighter than its predecessor with stiff cylinder blocks and decoupled injectors ensuring low levels of vibration and noise intrusion. The unit is available in two power outputs: 150bhp 2WD and 180bhp AWD. The 150bhp unit is claimed to be 18 per cent more fuel efficient compared to the Evoque’s previous diesel engines.
The petrol range consists of the 240bhp Si4 petrol engine which allows the Evoque to accelerate from zero to 100kmph in 7.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 217kmph.
With sales of more than 4 lakh units since its introduction in 2011, the Evoque unarguably has been the fastest-selling Land Rover of all time. According to the brand, 2014 marked the model’s most successful year to date, with global sales accounting to more than 1.25 lakh units. Land Rover will be looking to replicate the performance with this new model which is scheduled to go on sale globally starting August 2015.
