After turning the heat on the competition with the new S-Class and the C-Class, Mercedes-Benz will introduce its upcoming new E-Class in 2016. A prototype of the same was clicked by our spies while undergoing cold weather testing in Europe.
While it is hard to guess its styling elements with the heavy camouflage, it looks more curvaceous as compared to the outgoing model. The headlamps and tail lights are not clearly evident but seems like they are carrying a design inspired by the S-Class.
Interestingly, earlier spy pictures of its interior also revealed the resemblance to the S-Class’ interior elements. The digital instrument cluster, circular air vents and large infotainment display scream S-Class. However, these are still early prototypes and the design might change drastically by the time the model nears production.
The engine options are unclear, however as per reports online it might be offered with a new range of inline six-cylinder engines (the V6 might be gone forever). These straight-six engines might come out in displacements ranging from 2.2- to 3.5 litre. Apart from this there will also be a slew of petrol and diesel four-pot motors alongwith a plug-in hybrid variant.
Earlier the similaritiesbetween the S-Class and the C-Class was the talking point while the E-Class always carried a style of its own. Is Mercedes trying to make all its core products look the same? Well, we cannot be sure on that until we see a final prototype or the finished product. But, we can be sure of one thing, the new E-Class will be here within six months from its launch date.
