The 18th edition of Maruti Suzuki Raid de Himalaya is all geared up to be held between 8 – 15 October, 2016. Popularly known as the world’s highest motorosport event, particpants are put put through an extreme test of mental endurance and physical fitness which will see man and machine battle through hostile weather. This year’s event will kick off from Manali on October 8 and will make its way towards Kaza, Sarchu, Leh and then back to Manali over the course of seven days, covering approximately 2000 kms.
The organisers have claimed that this year’s rally route will be the most challenging ever, but will also traverse through some of Himachal’s most scenic routes on high altitudes. Last year’s event which started in Shimla went through Manali, Dalhousie, Rangdum and ended in Srinagar. The event saw 167 participants travelling 1,920 km over six days. Moroever, the 17th edition of the event also witnessed the highest number of women participants.
Raj Singh Rathore and his navigator Amber Udasi driving the Polaris clinched the top prize in the 17th edition of the Raid de Himalaya, in the Xtreme four-wheeler category. The top slot in the adventure category was claimed by Jagmeet Gill with navigator Chandan Sen. While among women, Anu Rana and her navigator Poonam Rana had won the Coup de Dames title.
