Mahindra launched its Scorpio double cab pick-up in India back in 2007. The pick-up was called the Getaway here, and sold as the ‘Pik-Up’ in International markets like Australia and South Africa. The 2016 Getaway will feature updated styling and a completely new chassis. The spy images of the new Getaway disclose a lot of the details.
The 2016 Mahindra Scorpio Getaway will get the new body-on-frame chassis, this will contribute in making the pick-up significantly stiffer and lighter. It will use the engine from the 2014 Scorpio which is the 2.2-litre four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine making 120bhp and 280Nm of torque. The pick-up will also use a 5-speed gearbox and will come with four-wheel-drive.
In terms of styling, the front of the pick-up will be identical to the 2014 Scorpio. The new grille, double barrel headlamps with DRLs are clearly visible. The rear of the car is equipped with the older Scorpio taillights and not the ones on the updated Scorpio. The side profile of the pick-up is very similar to that of the previous generation pick-up.
On the inside the next-generation Mahindra Getaway will host a new dashboard, updated gear-console, instrument cluster with MID screen, 4-spoke steering wheel and new switchgear. The cabin will also get higher-quality materials.
The first generation failed to succeed in the Indian market, the updated one could change things around. Mahindra will display the 2016 Scorpio Getaway at the Auto Expo in February.
