A heavily camouflaged test mule of the 2016 Jaguar XF has been spotted testing in Bengaluru. The new Jaguar XF was globally unveiled earlier this month at the 2015 New York Auto Show and is yet to go on sale in the US or the European markets. Hence, it is quite surprising that Jaguar has already started testing the new XF on the Indian soil and we can’t help but doubt the authenticity of this spy shot, especially because of the test mule’s UK registration plate.
The new XF’s chassis gets a larger aluminium component and this has reduced the overall weight of the car by 190 kilograms. Despite this reduction in weight, Jaguar claims that the torsional stiffness of the car has gone up by 28 per cent. The new XF has a longer wheelbase than the previous car, which has translated into more space for the rear-seat passengers.
The new XF will be available with a new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel mill, apart from the 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel engine and the supercharged 3.0-litre V6. The ZF eight-speed automatic transmission is still available, though customers can also opt for a six-speed manual gearbox with the Ingenium engine.
We can expect the new Jaguar XF to make its Indian debut at next year’s Auto Expo. The XF rivals other luxury sedans like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and the Volvo S80.
