Jaguar has launched the all-new 2016 XF premium sedan in India for Rs 49.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The British automaker’s mid-size sedan is being offered with one diesel and petrol engine across five variants. Bookings for the car have already begun and deliveries will start from the end of this month.
The XF has retained the overall design hallmarks that made it famous but is now 195kgs lighter than the outgoing model thanks to a new aluminium intensive architecture. New design elements include a chrome package, adaptive LED headlamps as well tail lamps of which the latter has been adapted from the F-Type sports car.
This new car had undergone a very minor dimension change with the length and consequently the wheelbase both increasing. This has resulted in more space for the rear passengers. Standard features on the top-of-the-line Portfolio model include electrically adjustable leather seats, two-zone climate control, touch screen infotainment system, 10 palette mood lighting system. To keep the excitement going Jaguar has also retained the pulsing starter button that pops out of the dashboard when you open the car.
This is the first vehicle from Jaguar’s Indian stables to debut the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine. It produces 177bhp/430Nm of torque with power going to the rear wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol engine on the other hand is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor that debuted with the XE sedan. It produces 237bhp/340Nm of torque with power going to the rear wheels via an eight-speed AT.
It goes up against the big German three- BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4. Of these, the former two are offered with both petrol and diesel options while the Audi will get the oil burner option at a later date.
