The ix20 is Hyundai’s modern mini-MPV that was shown first at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. It is based on the same platform which also underpins the i20 hatchback. Looking to rejuvenate its B-segment MPV offering, Hyundai is working on a quick makeover as seen in these spy shots.
Seen here undergoing cold weather testing somewhere in Sweden, the 2016 ix20 is expected to benefit from a minor facelift consisting of a refreshed front and rear end. Inside, the cabin is likely to get revised trim levels and improvements in in-car entertainment.
Since this will be a minor facelift, Hyundai is expected to keep the power-train as it is, meaning the new ix20 will continue to be offered with a range of small petrol and diesel engines ranging from 1.4 to 1.6-litres.
Hyundai is expected to roll out this new model by the end of the year, at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Interestingly, it is during the same period where Hyundai India is expected to introduce the ix25 compact SUV for the Indian market. The brand’s other launch for 2015 includes the i20-based crossover which will officially arrive by April.
