The 2016 Honda Accord was unveiled back in July 2015. Now, sources at Honda India have confirmed the launch of the Honda Accord in the next fiscal year, and also mentioned that it will likely be showcased at the Auto Expo.
Honda phased out the eighth generation Accord back in 2013 because of dwindling sales, and Honda only managed to move 11,492 units since its launch in 2008. Rising cost of fuel and segment rivals shifting to alternative fuel was the cause.
The absence of a diesel engine option in the segment, led customers to shift to alternatives like the Skoda Superb or the higher priced German rivals. In fact, the sales of the Toyota Camry Hybrid which used a smaller petrol linked to an electric motor surpassed that of the Honda Accord. Honda then withdrew from the market and said they were shifting their focus to the smaller car segment. Well, Honda is set to enter the premium car segment once again with the 2016 Honda Accord, featuring the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine linked to a 124 kW electric motor.
