After unveiling the all-new Chevrolet Cruze sedan earlier this year in June, General Motors is now planning to introduce the Cruze hatchback for the US markets. Spotted on test recently, this hatchback version will help widen the appeal of the Cruze sedan in various markets.
While the Cruze sedan is expected in showrooms in the US early next year, General Motors has not yet revealed when the hatchback would arrive. GM has sold hatchback versions of the outgoing Cruze in markets including Europe and China and the brand may add the five-door model in the US to compete with other automakers and capture a piece of the hotly contested hatchback segment.
General Motors launched the outgoing Cruze in the US back in late 2010. Since then, the Cobalt replacement has helped attract younger customers for the brand. The Cruze, in fact, is Chevrolet’s top seller globally, with more than 3.5 million units sold in 115 countries since its global debut in 2008. The Cruze has racked up decent sales numbers here in the Indian market as well, however, Chevrolet India won’t be bringing the 2016 Cruze hatchback. Instead, we will be getting the 2016 Cruze sedan which will compete with the Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Jetta here.
