BMW is busy working on a new version of the X1. On sale since 2009, the X1 represents the smallest and the most affordable form of BMW’s X range of SUVs. The brand is expected to reveal the refreshed X1 in September this year, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Changes to the exterior design will feature a more prominent and larger kidney grille. The new X1 will be designed on the lines of BMW’s new design language as seen in the X4, X5 and the X6. As a result, the bumper has also been restyled to achieve the latest-gen look seen in recent BMW models.
Inside, the basic cabin layout and materials will be carried over from the current model though BMW will add a few new features and update the iDrive infotainment system. The biggest upgrade, however, will be underneath the body shell. The new X1 is expected to make use of the UKL1 front-wheel drive platform that currently underpins the new generation of Mini hatchbacks. Since this is an ‘X’ designated vehicle, xDrive will be offered on specific variants but a majority of the offerings are expected to be front-wheel drive.
The new X1 is expected to be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, followed by an official launch in select European markets. BMW India, meanwhile, could bring the X1 to India sometime next year.
