The 2016 BMW 7 Series will debut a model called the 750Ld which will be powered by an inline-six quad-turbo engine. It will replace the German automaker’s current inline-six tri-turbo unit and is expected to be offered with 50d variants of the X5, X6 and the soon-to-be-launched X7 SUV.
Reports suggest that the engine with the four turbo setup will enable the engine to produce 400bhp and a monstrous 800Nm of torque. All power will go to all four wheels through a ZF eight-speed AT and xDrive system as is the case with the current tri-turbo models.
However, some sources also suggest that the three turbo setup will continue to be employed and the fourth is likely to be an electronically driven unit. Whatever be the final setup, the obvious benefit is that the fuel efficiency is expected to increase, one can expect quicker throttle responses and obviously a much wider power band.
