The upcoming 2016 BMW 7 Series (codename G11) has been spied undisguised and a couple of pictures have been found on Facebook. The flagship sedan might be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and is slated for an early-2016 launch.
The pictures reveal a more prominent kidney grille on the front surrounded by sleeker and sharp looking headlights. At the back, a chrome strip now connects the LED tail lamps and runs through the tail lamp clusters. The twin exhaust pipes are fitted cleanly into the new rear bumper and complement the elegant rear design.
Thanks to extensive usage of carbon fibre reinforced plastic, aluminium and magnesium in the car's construction, the 7 Series is expected to shed quite a lot of weight. As for the powertrain, the engine range will comprise a wide range of options spanning from four cylinder 2.0-litre motors to massive V8 and V12 engines.
Additionally, there will also be a plug-in hybrid version fitted with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s capable xDrive all-wheel- drive system.
The new 7 Series will be officially shown later this year followed by a year-end launch. When launched, it will compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and the Volvo S80.
