Skoda has launched the 2015 version of the Yeti in Australia starting at 23,490 AUD (Rs 13.13 lakh) for the base model called Active. The facelifted Yeti showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo is slated for a launch this year and we can expect it soon.
The Yeti, in Australia, will be available with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and in the cheaper Active variant with a six-speed manual gearbox driving the front wheels. The seven-speed DSG gearbox will be available as an option for a price of 25,790 AUD (Rs 14.4 lakh). A mid-range variant with a 1.4 litre, turbo four-cylinder petrol engine mated to the DSG gearbox in the Ambition trim costs 28,290 AUD (Rs 15.81 lakh). The range topper 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine will be priced at 35,690 AUD (Rs 19.95 lakh) for the manual and 37,990 AUD (Rs 21.24 lakh) for the DSG.
In India, the Yeti will be made available only with a diesel engine with an option of all-wheel-drive (AWD) and two-wheel drive like the current model. The engines will be the same 2.0-litre TDI unit and will produce 108bhp for the two-wheel-drive model and 138bhp for the AWD variant. Skoda has also launched a new variant called ‘Yeti Outdoor’ a more rugged version of it. Although, the chances of this model coming to India are minimal, it could add a bit more flair to the Yeti’s range.
The updated car gets a new grille, rectangular-shaped headlights with optional bi-xenons, LED daytime running lights at the front, C-shaped lights with optional LEDs and a refreshed tailgate at the rear. Unique alloy-wheel options are also offered on the all-new Yeti and four new shades of colour have been added to the brochure. The interior gets a new steering wheel, new dashboard trim, additional fabric seat trims and patterns. The optional extras include an automatic parallel parking system and a rear-view camera.
The Yeti now doesn’t look quirky like it used to before, it had a lot of useful features like a flexible rear seat and was a very practical vehicle. But, it didn’t sell enough to do justice to its capabilities, that’s what Skoda will want to change with the refreshed model. We can expect the car to be launched during the festive season this year.
