Now that the latest-gen 3-door Mini Cooper is out and creating waves in the small car arena, the British carmaker has started work on the bigger, 5-door version which is expected to make its debut late this year.
Caught on test in Europe, the new 5-door version appears just three months after the world debut of the standard 2015 3-door Mini. Like the standard model, the 5-door model, too, will feature a few design revisions in the form of larger grille, bigger headlamps with thicker chrome surrounds, more raked front and rear windscreen. Inside, the dashboard will come fitted with an all-new infotainment system in place of the trademark circular central speedo.
The test mule caught is seen with a hood scoop and a rear diffuser, meaning it could be the high-performance S version fitted with BMW’s new 2-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing around 190bhp of power and up to 300Nm of torque.
The new 5-door Mini is expected to debut sometime late this year, before the arrival of the new Clubman version in 2015.
