A camouflaged 2015 Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing along-side its nearest rival the Maruti Suzuki Swift (also covered in camo). While this is not the first time that the i20 has been spotted testing in India, it is however believed to be the first that the car has been captured alongside its important rival, the Maruti Suzuki Swift.
The 2015 Hyundai i20 is expected to be launched later this year and look quite similar to the Grand i10 as it will also embody the fluidic design philosophy completely. One of the spy shots shows the new car standing next to the current one and it appears to be longer, in all likelihood it could be an export-spec version. The current car is 3.99 metres leaving very little scope for any kind of size increase if it has to comply with the sub four-metre rule. So, we expect that at least for the Indian market, the proportions will not change.
The presence of the Swift means that Hyundai is benchmarking the premium hatchback against the segment leader in a bid to up its game. It is believed that the 2015 i20 has already been spotted testing along with a VW Polo and we expect that it may been seen in the coming months running alongside other segment contemporaries.
The 2015 Hyundai i20 is expected to get revised interiors and an updated feature list which is not surprising, considering that it is currently the segment leader in this regard and will want to up the ante.
It is expected to be powered by two sets of engines- the 1.2-litre petrol which produces 83bhp and 113Nm of torque while the diesel will be a 1.4-litre unit that produces 89bhp and 219Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual/four-speed AT in the petrol and a six-speed manual in the diesel. There is also a possibility that Hyundai may offer a base diesel version of the i20 with the 1.1-litre diesel engine from the Grand i10/Xcent.
The 2015 Hyundai i20 when launched will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, VW Polo, Chevrolet U-VA, Fiat Punto, Tata Bolt (when launched), Toyota Etios Liva and the Ford Figo.
