The 2015 Hyundai i20 has been launched for the UK market and has a starting price of 10,695 GBP (Rs 9.95 lakh). It is available in six variants and with three engine options. The Euro-00spec i20 was unveiled just shortly after the i20 made its global debut in India as the Elite i20.
The UK/Euro spec car is exactly the same as the Indian model but is 4.03 metres in length as compared to the India spec car’s 3.99-metre length. It also gets extra engine options as well as an increased feature list but otherwise looks exactly the same.
The top-spec UK model is the Premium SE variant which is equivalent to the India-spec Asta petrol and diesel variants. Standard features on these variants include ABS+EBD, Climate control, reverse parking camera, front and rear power windows, mirror mounted OVRMs, 2-DIN music system and alloy wheels. In addition to these features from the India spec car, we can also find cruise control and Lane Departure Warning system.
The petrol engine options are the 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre Kappa engines while the diesel lineup gets the 1.1-litre three cylinder mill and the 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine. The petrol engines can be had with a five-speed manual or a four-speed AT while the 1.4-litre diesel has been mated to a six-speed manual.
Like the Indian market, the i20 rivals the VW Polo as well as the Ford Fiesta hatchback in the UK. The car is manufactured at the automaker’s plant outside Chennai and then exported to the UK.
