Audi has taken the wraps off an all-electric version of its famous modern sports car the R8. Dubbed the R8 e-tron version 2.0, it is now in its second generation like its petrol-powered sibling , though the electric version of the first generation R8 did not go beyond production form.
The R8 e-tron’s electric motors now produce 462bhp and 920Nm of torque which is marginally lesser than that of its closest rival, the Tesla Model S P85D but it is still a fast car nonetheless. What is a major change for the R8 e-tron is that its battery capacity has been increased from 49kWh to 92kWh upping its theoretical range from 225km of the previous model to 450km. The extra batteries have been arranged in a manner that they sit correctly in the vehicles.
It gallops from 0-100kmph in 3.9 seconds and will then go on to hit an electronically limited 250kmph. Reports suggest that Audi will launch the car later this year but will take the help of the e-tron’s buyers to continue its research into further development of its electric range.
