BMW is going to start the second inning of its ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’ segment in India, by launching the 2016 X6 tomorrow.
Internally called F16, the new BMW X6 retains the overall silhouette of the current model, though the styling has been toned down to make it look less dramatic. It gets bigger overhangs on both ends, which have increased in length by 34mm, while the front gets a sharper look thanks to the revised twin kidney grille and narrower angel eye headlamps.
The X6 is built around a new platform which makes extensive use of aluminum and lightweight construction, to make it 10 kilograms lighter than the outgoing model. The new platform has also helped improve the agility, response and on-road dynamics of the X6. The X6 comes loaded with creature comforts and equipment borrowed from the X5. Like the previous model, we expect the new X6 to be offered in xDrive30d and xDrive50i trims for the Indian market.
The BMW X6 is a niche vehicle which doesn’t really have any competition in India, though the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe will be its direct rival.
