The 2015 BMW X6 has been spotted testing again, this time in China. The country is one of the biggest markets for this crossover and will be one of the first to get it, once it gets launched in early 2015. Internally called F16 X6, the second-generation crossover is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Moscow International Motor Show or at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Like the first-generation car, the 2015 X6 will borrow the X5’s underpinnings. The spy pictures show that the design of the new X6 has been toned down to make it look less dramatic. The car retains its instantly recognisable silhouette but the extra overhang on both ends means it has grown in size. The rear of the X6 blends in more smoothly and gives the car a sportier appearance. The front of the X6 features a new fascia along the lines of the current BMW models with new headlamps which merge into the trademark kidney grille.
The X6 will continue to be offered with xDrive all-wheel-drive system and a host of V8s and inline six-cylinder engines. BMW might also include a plug-in hybrid in the line-up lifted from the X5 eDrive. While the base models will get a conventional suspension, high-end models will be offered with self-leveling pneumatic suspension and adjustable ride control.
While BMW enjoyed the exclusivity in the segment till now, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are soon going to join the race. Despite not fitting to everyone’s taste, it seems that the coupe-crossover segment is still going strong. The X6 was launched in India but dismal sales led to the model being discontinued here. The new X6 will be launched here a few months after its international launch, though it will have a new rival by then, the Mercedes-Benz MLC. In India, the X6 goes up against a host of other SUVs like the Land Cruiser Prado, Audi Q7 Mercedes-Benz M-Class as well as the Mercedes-Benz GL.
