The 2015 F16 X6 has been spotted at BMW’s headquarters in Munich, Germany. Going by the sparse amount of camouflage this test mule carried, it seems that the car is very close to production. The car is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, with an early 2015 launch.
Like the previous car, the 2015 X6 will be based on the X5’s platform, the F15 X5 in this case. It is evident from the pictures that the proportions and the design of the new car have been toned down to make it look less dramatic, though the silhouette still makes it instantly recognizable as an X6. The car retains the coupe like roofline as well as the styling cues from the current car. The front of the car features the trademark twin kidney grille, angel eye headlamps and the overhang is bigger than before.
The X6 will be offered with a host of V8s and inline six-cylinder engines. BMW also might include a plug-in hybrid in the lineup lifted from the X5 eDrive. The BMW X6 was supposed to be unveiled at the Moscow Auto Show, though it has now been postponed due to the Crimea crisis. BMW recently unveiled the newest addition to the ‘X’ family, the X4 at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
While BMW had the monopoly of being the only coupe-crossover in the market, Mercedes-Benz recently announced its foray into the segment with the new ‘MLC-Class’. Despite not fitting to everyone’s taste, it seems that the coupe-crossover segment is still going strong, enough for BMW to sanction new models. The X6 used to be sold in India, but poor sales figures led the model to be discontinued a while ago. The new X6 will be launched in India a few months after its international launch, though it might have to compete with the Mercedes-Benz MLC by then
