BMW India has launched the new X6 xDrive40d M Sport in Bangalore today for a starting price of Rs 1.15 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the updated model of the X6 from the manufacturer's 'Sports Activity Vehicle’ segment in our country.
The second-generation BMW X6 is bigger in dimensions in comparison to the previous model. The 2015 BMW X6 is 34mm longer, 4mm wider and 12mm higher and lighter by 40kg. The reduction in kerb weight is due to the extensive use of aluminium and lightweight materials in its construction.
There are a few distinctive changes even if the car has not undergone a major cosmetic makeover. The external changes include new bumpers, a new kidney grille and new LED Multi-beam headlights. The car is available in four new colour options and comes with a new pattern of alloy-wheels with options of 17", 18" and 20" sizes. The cabin is also updated with a new two-toned leather upholstery in quality fabric.
The updated BMW X6 comes in an xDrive40d variant powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo in-line six diesel mill that churns out 313bhp of power and 630Nm of torque. This unit comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The SUV does the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 240kmph.
For BMW enthusiasts, the manufacturer will bring in the BMW X6M as well, but sometime later this year. The BMW X6M employs a 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo petrol engine that produces 560bhp of power and a maximum torque of 750Nm.
BMW had discontinued the X6 last year and has re-launched it in the form of its second-generation. The car caters to the niche segment of vehicles in our country and doesn't really have a direct rival as of yet. But we can expect Mercedes-Benz to bring in the GLE Coupe to the Indian market to compete with the BMW X6.
