The 2015 BMW X4 will, from July onwards, be retailing in Australia with prices starting at AUD69,900 (Rs 39.16 lakh). This coupe-like crossover made its first public appearance at the New York Auto Show.
It was the success of BMW’s coupe-like crossover X6 that prompted the makers to come up with a second one in the form of the X4. The car borrows most of its underpinnings from the X3, following a policy similar to that of the X6 and the X5. The body has four doors and though being shaped like a coupe, the design of the X4 when compared to the X3 is more sportier and gets an improved stance as well.
In Australia, the cheapest model will be the xDrive20i version that starts at AUD69,900 (Rs 39.22 lakh) and comes fitted with a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 184hp and 270Nm of torque. Though, apart from the petrol engine, the X4 also gets the new generation of 2.0-litre diesel engines as well. The top-spec diesel is expected to be the 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit from the X5 that produces 300bhp.
The standard version includes stuff such as Performance Control, variable sports steering systems 19-inch alloy-wheels, bi-xenon headlights with LED DRL and fog lights, parking sensors, reverse camera, automatic tailgate, dual-zone climate control, ACC, leather upholstery and many others. All these features can be had at AUD9,000 (Rs 5.04 lakh).
The xDrive30d model starts at AUD83,900 (Rs 47.09 lakh) but you can’t have it without the aforementioned kit and Dynamic Damper Control, Surround View camera system, anti-dazzle mirrors and a premium sound system.
The range-topping xDrive35i will start at AUD87,900 (Rs 49.25 lakh) including 20-inch rims, the M Sport package, comfort access with keyless entry, M steering wheel and a Harman-Kardon audio system.
The X4 embodies the best of both worlds. The combination of AWD and higher ground clearance plus the sporty handling of a 3 Series lets the X4 bridge the gap between vehicles, allowing customers to have a vehicle that both drives like a car while performing in adverse weather conditions like an SUV. In India, we expect the car in the later part of the year and may see it priced between the Rs 38 lakh to Rs 50 lakh bracket. In this price bracket you may get the Audi Q5 and the Freelander here.
