Audi has officially unveiled the facelifted A6 range which will go on sale, globally, in late 2014. Featuring styling revisions, upgraded lighting options, a new infotainment system and new gearbox options, the 2015 A6 sedan and Avant models will hit the showrooms soon. The German carmaker has confirmed that the upgrades will also be shared by the A6 all-road and the high-performance versions such as the S6 and the RS6 Avant.
Design wise, the single frame grille, air inlets, and the front bumper have been revised. Furthermore, the new A6 also gets new side sills, rear lights and tailpipes. The highlight here is the addition of xenon headlamps as standard for the A6 SE models, and LED headlights with dynamic ‘sweeping’ rear indicators for S line versions and above. Audi’s revolutionary Matrix LED headlights, meanwhile, is now a part of the optional extras for all A6 and S6 variants. It is, however, available as standard in the RS6 Avant. Inside, there’s the upgraded infotainment option, which includes the revised MMI navigation plus and Audi connect. The latter features internet-based services and media streaming apps for the car.
The new A6 and A6 Avant range will comprise four TDI engines with either four or six-cylinders in either single or twin turbo configuration. As before, the most efficient engine from the range is the 2-litre TDI four cylinder unit with 190bhp of power. The high-performance diesel is paired with an 8-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox.
For other engines, Audi has developed a new 6-speed manual gearbox that is particularly lightweight, says the brand. Completing the gearbox range is the 7-speed S tronic twin-clutch unit which replaces the familiar 8-speed multitronic CVT. Audi has revealed that deliveries of the new A6 range will begin in late 2014. The updated model will compete against the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
