The annual World Car of the Year awards is a mighty big affair in the automotive circuit. Inaugurated in 2003 and officially announced in January 2004, the unified contest is run by a jury of international journalists from across the globe.
Now in its 10th year, the finalists for the 2014 World Car of the Year awards have been announced at the Geneva Motor Show. The highlight, as always, remains the World Car of the Year title for which cars like the Audi A3, the BMW 4 Series and the Mazda 3 are the finalists.
As for the 2014 World Luxury Car, the jurors have gone with the Mercedes-Benz S Class, the Bentley Flying Spur and the Range Rover Sport. On the performance front, there’s the Ferrari 458 Speicale, Porsche’s 911 GT3 and the latest-gen Chevrolet Corvette vouching for the 2014 World Performance Car title. Additionally, the jury has also shortlisted the BMW i3, the Volkswagen XL1 and the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron for the title of the 2014 World Green car.
Prior to this, it was the Mk7 Volkswagen Golf which took home the title of the 2013 World Car of the Year. The winner of this year’s title could be anybody’s guess given the stiff competition, although we will have to wait till April 17 because that’s when all the winners will be officially announced.
