Volkswagen has launched the facelifted version of the Polo today for a price tag starting Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The updated Polo, apart from cosmetic upgrades gets a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 89bhp and 230Nm of torque. The base petrol variant now starts at Rs 4.99 and the diesel variant will be available from Rs 6.27 lakh onwards, the Cross Polo will now retail for Rs 7.90 lakh and the top-end GT variants will cost Rs 7.99 lakh (TSI and TDI).
The cosmetic changes in the new Polo are a redesigned front bumper with a chrome strip running across the air dam. The new headlights are double barrel units, the fog lamps are new, and the tail-lights get marginal changes. The 10-spoke alloy wheel is new and looks classy.
Inside the cabin, the major change is the new flat-base three-spoke steering wheel. The steering wheel looks well designed and gets better looking buttons in comparison to the current car. The instrument cluster is retained with minor changes, like the multi-information display which is now more detailed and the illumination is no more red. The dashboard layout is similar, but now gets two-tone colours instead of the black-only theme of the old car.
Volkswagen India has also launched the GT variants and the Polo Cross along with the standard models. The Polo GT TSI retains the turbocharged, 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 103bhp and the GT TDI gets the new 1.5-litre engine in a different state of tune producing 103bhp and 250Nm of torque. The Cross Polo will be available as a diesel only and will be powered by the new diesel engine producing 89bhp and 230Nm of torque. Deliveries of the Polo will begin immediately, whereas the GT variants and the Cross Polo will be available from September onwards.
