Volkswagen previewed the Polo hatchback at the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013 (KLIM13). It is a completely knocked down (CKD) version of its 2014 Polo hatchback, which will be locally assembled alongside the recently launched CKD 2014 Polo sedan (Vento) at the plant in Pekan. The car is expected to go on sale in Malaysia early in 2014.
Volkswagen India also confirmed the exporting of CKD kits to Malaysia previously. This Polo hatch is powered by the same engine that powers the Vento, a 1.6-litre MPI engine with 103.6bhp at 5,250rpm and 153Nm at 3,800 rpm. The naturally-aspirated four-pot is mated to a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission, which has Tiptronic mode. The car travels 0-100 kmph in 11.1 seconds, while its top speed is 184 kmph.
On the exterior, the Polo no longer has the distinctive L-shaped tail lamp elements and the headlamps are encased in solver instead of black. There has been modifications made to the rear bumper as well and the car’s signal lamps are on the fenders. Coming to the interiors, it shares most of the features with the Polo sedan.
In terms of safety features it will have the ABS with brake assist, anti-pinch windows for all four doors, Isofix and the Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS) which automatically unlocks your doors and turns on the hazard lights in the event of an accident.
In India, however, the Volkswagen Polo Highline 1.6-litre has been discontinued from this year and replaced by the 1.2-litre GT TSI.
