The 2014 Toyota Corolla will be launched for the Chinese market in September. The car is already is visible on Toyota’s Chinese website and is the same European spec model that was launched in India recently. It debuted in the People’s Republic during the 2014 Beijing Motor Show.
The China spec Corolla will be made available with two engine options-the 1.8-petrol in two variants and the 1.6-petrol in five variants. The former does 138bhp and can be had with a six-speed manual or a CVT while the latter produces 120bhp and can be had with a five-speed manual or a CVT. The 1.8-litre engined units have prices starting from 159, 800 (Rs 15.15 lakh) Yuan while the 1.6-litre engined units have prices starting from 107, 800 Yuan (Rs 10.22 lakh).
We expect that since the Indian and Chinese markets have similar demands from vehicles of such size and price, the feature list and interior trim will remain pretty much the same across both cars. The car will produced alongside its America designed counterpart under the joint venture of FAW-Toyota. The American designed model has been named the Levin and will be sold along-side this car.
