The 2014 Range Rover Sport has been spotted at an undisclosed location just twelve days before its official unveiling at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The British SUV maker has released a teaser picture and a video teaser showing the Range Rover Sport being driven into its cargo pallet (on its way to show we presume). The Sport, like its predecessors will be based on the same platform and design as its more civilised cousin but obviously with sportier overtones.
The car in the picture has the two-tone body paint, a slightly modified grille and blacked out headlights. What is also evident is the revised position of the air vents on the side and the low and sloping roof line which has been derived from the Evoque crossover.
Though we now have an idea of what the car will look like from the outside, there are no details about the interiors. JLR have not released any details about the sporty SUV expect for the announcement that it will be the fastest and most modern SUV that the company has ever built.
The 2014 Sport will make use of the same light-weight aluminium chassis that underpins the standard Range Rover. Thanks to this chassis, the standard Range Rover dropped over 420kgs and this number should greatly benefit the new Sport.
The 2014 Sport is expected to be powered by improved versions of the same engines that power the current model – 5.0-litre turbocharged V8 and naturally aspirated avatars. The new Sport is also expected to get the eight-speed automatic ZF gearbox and the recently launched 9-speed automatic box may be an optional extra.
