The all-new 2014 Honda City has been launched in India for Rs 7.42 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Unveiled for the global markets at a function in Delhi, on November 25, it is now being offered with a diesel engine and significantly upgraded interiors. The petrol range starts from Rs 7.42 lakh while the diesel range begins at Rs 8.62 lakh.
The all-new 2014 Honda City has got a revised fascia in the form of a new grille, sportier looking bumpers and double barrel headlights. Honda has not changed the overall dimensions but has increased the wheelbase thereby increasing the cabin space.
On the side Honda has given the City certain creases and lines to hide its increased proportions as well as a new design for the alloy-wheels and consequently the wheel covers in the lower spec variants. At the rear, the Japanese automaker has revised the design for the tail lamps and has added a chrome strip above the number plate holder in a bid to increase the premium appeal of the vehicle.
The outgoing Honda City was known to lack certain features, which over the course of its existence became segment standard. Honda has now fitted the new City with major upgrades like rear AC vents, push button start, touch screen infotainment system, rear parking camera, steering mounted audio controls, cruise control, leather seats and in a segment first a touch screen climate control system. On the safety front the City gets ABS with EBD, dual airbags and what the company calls passenger injury mitigation system. It is being offered in six different colours, beige and black interior combination.
On the engine front, the diesel engine which is being offered with this car for the first time is the 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit from the Amaze. It produces 98bhp, 200Nm of torque and has an ARAI certified efficiency of 26kmpl. The petrol on the other hand is the 1.5-litre i-VTEC unit that produces 119bhp and 145Nm of torque. The former is mated to a six-speed manual while the petrol can be had with a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The petrol engine has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 18kmpl with the CVT and 17.8kmpl with the manual.
The 2014 Honda City competes with the Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny and the Renault Scala in the C-Segment. The deliveries of the diesel variants will begin with immediate effect while petrol variant deliveries will start from the middle of February.
