The Datsun mi-DO hatchback has been launched at the 2014 Moscow Automobile Salon. Unveiled in April, this year, this is the second Russia specific model after the on-DO sedan and is based on the Lada Kalina hatchback.
The mi-DO measures 3.9 metres and has a wheelbase of 2.4 metres making it quite a spacious hatchback and putting it in league with the likes of B+ segment vehicles in terms of size. It gets the same global Datsun face that is present in most of the budget brand’s models. It retains an overall look similar to that of the Kalina hatchback including the design of the tail lamps.
Standard features on the hatchback include front airbags, ABS, heated seats and door mirrors. The press shots also reveal projector lamps but we expect that this will only be offered on the higher-spec variants.
The mi-DO is being offered with a 1.6-litre petrol engine which produces 87bhp. It will be offered with a four-speed AT or a five-speed MT. Deliveries for the vehicle will begin in September but in a symbolic gesture, the first customer to book the car was handed over his keys during the launch of the car.
Will we get to see the mi-DO in India? It seems unlikely that this will happen anytime soon as Datsun already has the GO+ MPV lined up for India and more importantly, it will not launch a car that will affect the sales of its existing models.
