Skoda’s volume driver, the Rapid sedan, will soon get a 2014 model year change and now some members of Team-bhp seem to have got their hands on dealer documents detailing a change in variants and the feature list as well.
The 2014 model year Skoda Rapid gets a revised variant list where the Active trim line has been dropped. The Skoda Rapid is now available in four petrol (of which two are AT) and one diesel variant which is in the Elegance trim line.
The dealer document shows that the Ambition Plus variant now gets Bluetooth connectivity, an on-board computer and steering mounted audio controls. The Elegance variant gets projector headlamps in addition to the features of the Ambition Plus trim line.
The engine line-up is the same as before; a 1.6-litre petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 153Nm of torque. It can be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox. The oil burner is also a 1.6-litre unit that churns out 103bhp and 250Nm of torque.
We expect that Skoda too will soon offer a TSI variant of the Rapid as it shares much of its underpinnings and design with the Volkswagen Vento which recently got a TSI variant. The engine in the latter is the same one found in the Polo GT TSI and produces 105bhp and 175Nm of torque. It has been mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
Our sources confirmed that the new Skoda logo has been on the cars for over five months now with the Rapid and the Fabia being the first vehicles to be fitted with them.
