Mini is likely to choose November 18 for the unveiling of the 2014 Mini Cooper for sentimental reasons. The date coincides with the 107th birth anniversary of Sir Alec Issigonis, the creative genius behind the original Mini.
The ceremony which is likely to be conducted at the company’s plant in Oxford will be followed by the shipping of the new Mini Cooper and the Cooper S models to Japan and Los Angeles where it will be featured as part of the respective Auto Shows.
What will precede the unveiling is the launch of the Mini Vision Concept scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Vision Concept will feature some of the design concepts incorporated in the new Mini Cooper.
The 2014 MINI Cooper will include key elements like a hexagonal radiator grille inspired by the one on the 1959 original, ring-shaped daytime running lights integrated with the headlights, and jewel-like tail-lights. The new model is also expected to feature new power plant options, details of which are expected to be revealed closer to the unveiling.
The journey taken by the new Mini Cooper has been an eventful one with the company expressing its discontent in a typical British tone, over the spy photographs that caught the car in a 'compromising situation'.
It is expected to be launched in India towards the middle of 2014, but BMW will have to take the CKD route if they are looking to increase volumes in the entry-level premium segment that is now dominated by the Mercedes A-Class and B-Class.
