July 25 will see Mercedes-Benz launch the performance packed sibling of the E-Class baring the AMG badge. The E63 AMG is Mercedes Benz’s answer to Audi’s recently launched RS5 and the soon to be launched S6. This is the first time the E63 AMG is officially launched for the Indian market though the model will still come to India as CBUs (Completely Built Units).
The stock AMG will visually distinguish itself from its saner sibling by flaunting a special AMG "A-wing" forming the lower intakes and a twin-blade grille sitting above it. The rear of the E63 gets a black finished rear diffuser and an AMG exclusive dual exhaust setup. The inside gets special AMG touches like silver seatbelts and Alcantara inserts to the Nappa leather steering wheel among other finer details.
But it’s never the exterior embellishments that distinguish an AMG spec car. Its monstrosity found under the hood that matters, and the new 2014 E63 AMG is no different. Unlike what the name suggests, the E63 will not be powered by the 6.3-litre AMG engine. Instead will house a 5.5-litre V8 produces 557PS of power, a 30PS step up from the previous model. Torque figure hits 700Nm and peaks as early as 200rpm, and will now by supplied to all-four wheels thanks to a rear biased 4Matic setup. The transmission setup for the 2014 model will be a 7-speed Speedshift automatic gearbox designed by AMG.
There is a performance spec S variant available in Europe which can be clearly identified with its unique red brake callipers, and "S" badge on the trunk, but we are unsure if it will land on Indian soil. The Audi RS5 is priced at Rs 96.81 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the E63 AMG is expected to be priced at around the same range, packing extra 100 horses but sans AWD.
