2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class revealed with new engine specs

The 2014 variant of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is yet to be launched and the details of the engine variants have been leaked before the launch. The new car will come in three new engine variants when it will go on sale this year.

The C220 Bluetec is powered by the 2.1-litre turbodiesel engine producing 168bhp of power. The C200 is equipped with the 2.0-litre petrol engine churning out 181bhp. On the other hand, the C180 is powered by the 1.6-litre petrol engine delivering a power output of 154bhp. These are the initial engine variants which will be followed by the 208bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the C250 trim after the launch. The oil burner C220 Bluetec will be offered in an ECO version which boasts of aerodynamically optimised body and low rolling resistance tyres. It also brags about the best-in-class grade for CO2 emissions. The diesel C250 Bluetec will be powered by a 2.1-litre turbodiesel engine capable of generating 201bhp of power.

  

All these variants are expected to be mated to the new, nine-speed automatic transmission from Mercedes. The gearbox codenamed as NAG3 is called the 9G-Tronic. This automatic transmission is expected to be carried over to another hybrid version of the C-Class. This model, probably, the C300 will be powered by the 2.1-litre diesel mill from the C250 Bluetec on pairing with the electric motor which gives an additional 28bhp of power.

The C63 AMG is expected to be powered by a revised 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 engine churning out a power output in the range of 454bhp and 493bhp. This engine variant might be carried over to the other AMG cars later in the year. However, the C63 AMG will supposedly cling on to the 7G-MCT SPEEDSHIFT automatic gearbox presently seen in the AMG range.

In 2015, the German automaker will bring in a C300 Plug-In Hybrid model. It will be powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged direct injection petrol engine capable of producing 249bhp with the assistance of an electric motor independently churning out 67bhp of power.

The new Mercedes C-Class, larger in dimensions than the outgoing model, will go on sale this year to compete with the BMW 3-Series. It is expected to be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show slated for this month.
