The details and pictures of the all-new 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class are on the internet thanks to Autocar UK. The German automaker had expressly said that the new C-Class (codenamed W205) is been designed to look and feel sporty with the intention of attracting a younger set of buyers and the images here back their statement.
The report says that Mercedes-Benz has made the new C-Class longer by around 100mm over the previous model. This means the car is now 4.7 meters long of which 28 centimetres is said to be within the wheelbase translating into more interior space all around. The car has also been widened by 40 mm to give it a wider (and lower) stance. The boot space has also been increased to 485 litres.
The new C-Class will also be the first three-pointed star to use the MRA (Mercedes rear-wheel drive architecture) platform. The design of this new platform is expected to allow Mercedes to produce cars in rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive (4matic technology) in both LHD and RHD for the first time. The architecture is also expected to underpin the next generation E-Class and S-Class.
The new C-Class will be offered with a variety of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants will be either a four-cylinder or V6 with outputs ranging from 184bhp (2.1-litre turbo) to 330bhp (twin turbo 3.0-litre). The oilburner is expected to be an upgraded version of the present 2.1-litre mill with outputs varying from 120bhp to 220bhp depending on the variant. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic.
There are no details about the interiors as yet but it we can expect that the new C-Class with be kitted out with the latest technology from the three-pointed star. The car is expected to debut at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show in March and will be on sale by next June.
