The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been launched in Malaysia for 286,000 RM (Rs 28.33 lakh). It was unveiled globally in early 2014 and shares much of its appearance with the much larger 2014 S-Class. The South Africa made cars are being offered in the Malaysian market in two trim levels and a single engine option but in two states of tune.
The 2014 C-Class for the Malaysian market is available in the C200 Avantgarde and C250 Exclusive models. Both have similar elements on the outside but the Exclusive Edition gets the classic three-pointed star and chrome grille. Apart from the visual changes, the Exclusive Edition also gets the German automaker’s Airpanel technology, wheel design and shape of the exhaust pipes.
Inside both models can be differentiated thanks to the C200 getting piano black interiors with aluminium door trims while the C250 gets wood décor and leather covered dashboard. Both models are pretty much the same when it comes to the feature list with the C250 getting the price specific additions.
On the engine front, the 2014 C-Class is offered with a single 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 184bhp/300Nm in the C200 and 211bhp/350Nm in the C250. Both cars are only offered with the 7G tronic AT box. It is longer than the outgoing model and is 4.6 metres long with a wheelbase of 2.8 metres and a boot space of 480-litre which can expand thanks to folding rear seats.
Now the big question- When will we get the 2014 C-Class in India? The answer is that it will arrive here in the early part of 2015 and will take the C-Class a notch higher in terms of price. We in India will also get the C220 CDI diesel version which is likely to have a Launch Edition when the car is launched. Though moving up in price, the C-Class will still compete with the BMW 3 Series , Audi A4, Jaguar XE and the Volvo S60.
