We spotted the 2014 Maruti Suzuki A-Star/ Suzuki Alto and another vehicle two days ago on the back of a flatbed somewhere in Europe. Our astute observations resulted in the discovery of one of the cars being shod with India sourced JK Vectras and the other with Maxxis MA-307 tyres. Now the very same cars have been spied testing somewhere near where the first set of the spy shots were taken by the crew at Worldcarfans. They have also got spy-shots of the interiors and more details of the body.
The new car appears to a little bigger and is likely to sport a larger wheelbase in a bid to increase the interior space. The car seems to retain the same overall design but with a much taller frame which is due to the fact that it is expected to share many components with the 2013 Wagon R that was launched last year.
The interior spy shots reveal an all too familiar Suzuki design that is common across its models. However, the quality of the materials used in the construction of the cabin looks significantly better than the current car. The test car has a slot for a single din music system and has been fitted with a dash mounted automatic transmission there by creating space for two bottle holders where the gearshift sits in the current car.
It is likely that both vehicles snapped up have originated from India as both are RHD and the fact that we (India operations) are one of Suzuki’s major test and research facilites outside of Japan. It also means that these cars are being tested keeping markets like India in mind where there is still major demand for such vehicles.
The current A-Star/ Alto (excluding China) has been without any major changes or upgrades since it was launched in 2008 and so we can expect that as and when this car is unveiled and eventually launched, India will be one of the first markets to get the 2014 Maruti Suzuki A-Star/ Suzuki Alto.
