The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests new cars to destruction to apprehend the level of safety they offer in the event of a collision. The agency recently tested Jeep’s all-new 2014 Cherokee which, incidentally, has earned a four-star overall rating.
The mid-size SUV managed to score four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test, thereby earing a four-star overall rating.Set to be unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Cherokee is an important model for Jeep given that it features an all-new 9-speed automatic gearbox – a first in the mid-size SUV segment.
Under the hood, the 2014 Cherokee gets a 2-litre turbo diesel engine delivering 170bhp. Jeep also offers a 140 horsepower version mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
