Honda launched the 2014 variant of the City in India this year. Later, the Japanese carmaker launched the car in Thailand. Now the manufacturer has gone ahead and introduced the car in the Malaysian market as well.
This fourth-generation avatar of the Honda City comes with new front and rear bumpers, even though the overall proportions of the car remain the same. The car, however, has a longer wheelbase. This in return has helped the company to increase the cabin space. Honda has packed the new City with a load of new features. These include features like push button start, climate control and infotainment system- both touch screen, new leather upholstery, rear AC vents and reverse parking camera. Other features like electronically adjustable OVRMs, dual airbags, ABS and EBD are offered as standard.
Though the new Honda City is available in both diesel as well a petrol option in India, only the petrol variant will be sold in Malaysia. This version is powered by the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that produces 116bhp and 146Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed-automatic CVT gearbox. The manual transmission version of the City will not be sold in Malaysia, unlike other cars available in the country, like Almera and Vios.
The Honda City will be available in the Malaysian market in four variants- S, S+, E and V. The V model is the top-end variant that boasts of all the features a premium B-segment sedan generally has. Exclusive to this variant is a touch screen head unit with seven-inch screen and eight speakers. The standard features like 16-inch rims, touch-panel auto air-con, rear air-con vents, leather steering with audio/cruise control buttons, keyless entry and push start, illuminated meter are standard.
The E spec comes with some of the features from the V trim. For example, the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill Start Assist systems are seen in both the V and E models. The S model is sold as the base model. All the variants are available in five colours- Modern Steel Metallic, Alabaster Silver Metallic and a new Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic.
The pricing for the 2014 Honda City starts from from RM75,800 (Rs 14.05 lakh) for the S model and RM78,800 (Rs 14.61 lakh) for the S+ model. The E trim is priced at RM83,800 (Rs 15.54 lakh). The top-end V variant will be sold for RM90,800 (Rs 16.84 lakh).
Honda also gives two add-on packages for the new City in Malaysia. The first Modulo Package includes a body kit, side skirts, boot spoiler and door visors. It is priced at RM3,200 (Rs 59,350). Another Premium Package priced at RM1,700 (Rs 31,529)includes the foot lights, sports pedal, side step illumination, trunk tray and trunk organiser.
The new City was developed at the Honda R&D Centre in Tochigi, Japan. Honda has come a long way ever since it launched the first-generation City in India in 1998. The company has sold more than 4.3 lakh units of the car globally. The new City is doing pretty well in terms of sales in India and we hope that the car will do considerably well in Malaysia as well.
