Jaguar has announced that its new premium sports sedan will be called the XE. The new sedan will rival the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 and be pitted in the entry level sports sedan category. This will be the first car to be powered by a new engine family called Ingenium and will be underpinned by a new aluminium monocoque that was unveiled with the C-X17 crossover.
Jaguar has released a single sketch of the XE which shows the fascia of the car. This sketch and numerous spy pictures reveal that XE will looks very similar to the larger XF and XJ in terms of overall design but will have certain characteristics that should give it an identity of its own.
The company, in a statement about the new sedan, has said that the global rollout will begin in 2015, and it will be the first aluminium monocoque vehicle in the segment. It will be powered by a new engine family called the Ingenium which will comprise of lightweight, low-friction, low emission four-cylinder petrol and diesel units. We expect that these mills to be turbocharged and will be in the range of 1.8-litres to 2.5 litres. As is the current trend for such vehicles, we expect these engines to be mounted transversely and will power the rear -wheels or all four -wheels.
This will be the fifth vehicle to be included in the Indian- owned Iconic British automaker’s modern line up after the XJ, XF, F-Type and the C-X17 which will be launched next year along with the XE. It is expected to complete Jaguar’s line up in the luxury segment and give it presence in a segment that it has not ventured into till date.
We expect that they will bring the car to India a few months after its global launch.
