We saw the American spec Toyota Corolla a few days ago and it is a complete change from what the previous two generation of cars have been like with their conservative and rather bland design. Now, Toyota has revealed the European spec version of the Corolla and it is also a departure from the previous models but is a more conservative design than the American spec version. This is the same car that was previewed via a web leak just a few days after the Corolla Furia was unveiled and will be launched in India eventually.
The 2014 European Spec Toyota Corolla sedan at front gets a square design with sharp lines for the bumper, grille and the hood. The blacked-out headlamps and light cluster (now featuring an LED insert) flow upwards into the sloping bonnet which has prominent creases on the sides.
All four wheels have extremely flared arches and doors slope forward on the side. At the back Toyota has retained some of the aggressiveness due to the wrap around tail lamps. The rest of the rear looks like it has been designed based on the current Camary sedan and features a large number of bulging lines.
The interior design language is very similar to those of the American spec car with the only major change being that the European Corolla gets a different design for the instrument cluster including different fonts for the gauges.
The engine line-up and underpinnings are all expected to remain the same as the American spec version and this includes the introduction of the VVT-i technology and the CVT gearbox in the higher variants.
This Corolla will be launched in India by 2015, it will be built here and might also be exported to certain Asian markets. The new Corolla will continue with the 1.8-litre petrol mill and the 1.4-litre diesel mill, however, the latter is expected to be beefed up to make the car more lucrative.
