Pictures of the 2014 Toyota Corolla have been leaked by a Chinese website. The spy shots have been clicked at the Toyota factory and show the car with its rear Toyota badge masked but sans any other camouflage. The car will be premiered for the Chinese market at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show next month with a launch for the Chinese market slated in the second half of the year.
Codenamed E160, the 2014 Corolla is the 11th iteration of the world’s top-selling car and has been developed in two different guises for the European and American markets. Both the Chinese and Indian markets will get the European-spec model which has ditched the conservative styling of the previous car to feature an aggressive look, borrowed from the Furia concept. The front of the car garnishes more chrome on the front grille and features bigger headlamps. The rear accommodates aggressive wrap-around tail lamps, which resembles its elder sibling, the Camry.
Reports suggest that the Corolla will continue to employ the 1.8-litre petrol engine, though the 1.6-litre unit will be replaced by a 1.5-litre 110bhp engine for the Chinese market. We expect Toyota to continue using the tried and tested engine lineup for the Indian market- the 1.8-litre petrol and 1.4-litre D-4D diesel. The former produces 138bhp and 173Nm of torque while the latter produces 87bhp and 205Nm of torque. The Corolla will also retain the option of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed CVT-i gearbox.
Toyota had unveiled this car, in India, at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo last month and is expected to be launched by mid-2014. The D-Segment car will go up against the Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia.
