The 2014 BMW X5 has officially been revealed. This comes after numerous spy shots and details of the car being leaked via the website of a China based scale model manufacturer. The mid-size SUV is evolution of the current vehicle but features small changes all across that make it look more contemporary and modern.
On the outside, the 2014 X5 is bigger and longer than the outgoing model. It gets the new design kidney grille, aerodynamic front bumper as well as the Xenon headlights but can be replaced with the optional LED adaptive headlights. Two new features on this model are a rear aero blade and Air Curtains that have been fitted to the underbody and reduce drag by directing the air flow around the wheel arches.
Inside, it is a familiar story for the X5 as most of the previous design has been retained but now features higher quality materials. Changes include LED interior lighting, revised design for iDrive system and new materials for the trim and accents. Thanks to the revised dimensions, The BMW X5 is now a seven-seater and has a larger boot.
The German automaker is now offering three external trim packages for the X5; xLine, Luxury Line and the M Sport of which the last one includes modifications to the suspension for better ride and handling. This is in addition to two new interior packages; Ivory white design and the Mocha Interior Design.
The 2014 X5 will now be offered with two sets of diesel mills and one petrol engine. The X5 X30d is powered by a 3.0-litre twin turbocharged six-cylinder mill that produces 259PS and 560Nm of torque. The X5 M50d is powered by the same 3.0-litre six cylinder mill but this time it is tri turbocharged to produce 381PS and 740Nm of torque. The petrol engined variant is the xDrive50i and is powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 mill that produces 450PS and 650Nm of torque.
The X5 will be built at the German automaker’s plant in Spartanburg South Carolina and in Germany. European and American deliveries are scheduled to begin in November and this means that we in India will get the 2014 model by the middle of next year via the CBU route.
