BMW has unveiled the all-new 2014 4 Series coupe. The new model is both longer and wider while riding on the same wheel base and will replace the current 3 series coupe in their portfolio. The 4 Series is also visibly distinct from the current coupe thanks to its shorter and more aggressive stance.
BMW will offer the 4 Series in 428i and 435i variants, both of which can be had with the German automaker’s xDrive technology. Just like in the 3 Series, the 428i is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, good for 240bhp and 346Nm of torque. The 435i gets BMW's turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six making 300bhp and 407Nm of torque, while providing two options for its transmission, a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission though the 428i xDrive can only be had with the automatic variant.
Despite not having exact performance figures, the 428i is expected to hit the 100 mark in 5.7 seconds while the 435i should do that same sprint in 5.3 seconds with the manual and five seconds flat with the eight-speed auto.
Aesthetically, the 4-Series takes design cues from the newly announced 3-series and 6-series models with its shorter kidney grill and sharper creasing. BMW will offer the 4 Series Coupe in three different trim lines – Luxury, Sport and M Sport while giving the option of both 18 and 19 inch alloys.
The 4 Series will go on sale later this year with prices starting from USD 41,425 (Rs 24 lakh). The India launch will have to wait till 2014 and the India spec version will be priced much higher considering that the variant will be brought in as CBUs (Completely Built Units).
