Skoda will launch the 2013 Octavia sedan for the Indian market tomorrow. It has been spotted testing on multiple occasions at various locations across the country and was officially unveiled for the Indian market on August 9th with production having started a few days before that.
We have already driven the car and have a detailed list of the variants, specs and features as well as compiled a list of all the stories that have chronicled major developments of the car over the last nine months.
The 2013 Octavia was unveiled for the European markets on December 12 and went on sale there 10 days later. It is based on the Czech automaker’s Vision D design language which includes a completely new Skoda badge. The car gets a significant amount of new kit both inside and outside as well as a sportier design.
The India spec Octavia will be offered in three trim levels; Active, Elegance and Ambition and with three engine options which comprise a 1.8-litre petrol, 1.4-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. Transmission options include a seven-speed automatic or a six-speed manual across both engines.
India is also expected to get the high performance Octavia vRS version, which was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, in the middle of next year. It is expected to be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options.
We expect that Skoda will price the Octavia in the range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18.5 lakh for the top-spec elegance diesel Automatic variant. It will compete with the Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla Altis, Renault Fluence and the Volkswagen Jetta.
