The 2013 Skoda Octavia has been spotted testing in China. The car was launched for the Indian market on October 3 for Rs 13.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and is the third generation of the Czech automaker’s D-segment sedan. The China spec car is made by Shanghai-Volkswagen and is exactly the same car that is produced in India.
It has the same feature list but is only offered with three sets of petrol engines due to various regulations in China with regard to diesel vehicles. The China spec car is offered with the 1.4-litre petrol, 1.6-litre petrol and the 2.0-litre petrol and the top-of-the-line 1.8 TSI. However, CarnewsChina who managed to get the spy pictures, have said that the 2.0-litre engine will not return to China in any form.
While Skoda is considered a luxury brand for the Indian market, it is mid-level choice among Chinese consumers and has been one of the major success stories for the German-owned Czech automaker. The report suggests that Skoda is banking on this car to boost its numbers in the Chinese market.
