Acura, the luxury brand of Honda, has unveiled its latest concept car, the SUV-X. It has been developed keeping in mind the spurt in demand for compact crossovers in China. However, the company also says that it will be a global SUV but with a Honda badge.
The SUV-X has a sporty design, thanks to its sharp edges and aggressive front and rear fasica, of which the former is probably a result of wanting to make the vehicle more aerodynamic efficient. It is Acura’s first concept vehicle outside of North America and the production version of the crossover is not expected to be launched before 2016.
Acura has not specified any details about the engines or underpinnings for SUV-X but we believe that it will include at least one hybrid mill as well as a large amount of parent company Honda’s Earthdreams technology.
"We are planning to produce the mass-production model of the Acura Concept SUV-X locally in China. With the hope that our Chinese customers will more closely feel the values offered from Acura, we will begin preparing for the start of the local production. In China, where dynamic growth continues, both Acura and Honda will keep up our efforts to enhance products and technologies that will offer new joys of mobility to our customers," said Takanobu Ito president and CEO, Honda.
