Jaguar has always been a brand that prides itself on the way its cars can involve the driver, and the XJR is the latest addition to the range at the hardcore end. The XJ is the leaping cat's largest sedan, and this one will be for those who don't want mere space, but a cruise missile on wheels.
The XJR should achieve 100kmph in just 4.4 seconds thanks to a 550PS, 680Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8 coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Top speed is limited to a mere 280kmph, and despite all this, Jaguar says that on the US driving cycle, it will return nearly 10kmpl! Suspension has been retuned to suit sporty dynamics rather than comfort.
The looks of the car are different, of course, with 20-inch rims being the main draw. There are also 'R' emblems and a rear spoiler that isn't present on the standard car. The interior has special trim elements.
The good news is that there is a long-wheelbase option as well, so we can expect it to go on sale here but in very small numbers. The US list price for the long-wheelbase version is USD 119,000, or Rs 64.7 lakh. We can expect it to double when it goes on sale here.
