The 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class has been spied testing by the petrolheads at Autocar. Codenamed the X166, this model that has been snapped up is the GL350 BlueTec diesel version. Much like the A-Class that was caught testing in Pune a few months ago, the GL too has been given the AMG pack.
The AMG pack is identifiable by the special alloy wheels, unique front and rear bumpers, flared wheel arches as well as a larger number of AMG badges and embossing to tell you that this vehicle means business.
The GL350 is likely to continue with the same 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 255bhp and a rather monstrous 608Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Coupled with the BlueTec technology, we can expect the SUV to have good fuel efficiency. Since this is likely to be a facelift, we expect most of the interiors and features to continue from the previous model.
At present, the GL is imported as a CBU but we expect that Mercedes-Benz will start assembling the range from SKD kits (imported from the USA) by the end of this year. They have already begun assembling ML-Class vehicles locally.
